Follow the story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s fateful Imperial Transantarctic Expedition as we enter its centennial year. We retrace his heroic journey from the Weddell Sea to Elephant Island, then on to (and across) South Georgia. ABC presenter and palaeontologist, Dr Paul Willis, will join the expedition to interpret the ancient landscape and regale the inspiring story of Shackleton’s extraordinary journey.

Expeditioners also have the chance to join the Alpine Crossing and follow Shackleton’s route through inner South Georgia. Our qualified climbing guide leads a small group of ‘crossers’ along the 35 to 50 kilometre route, over two to three days, traversing large, heavily crevassed glaciers and alpine passes. Experience is required and a surcharge applies.
