One of the world’s biggest girlbands is preparing for a special North East gig later this month – and two members in particular are extremely excited about heading home.

Chart-toppers Little Mix, which includes Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall from South Shields, will be performing in the town’s Bents Park on Sunday, August 25 as part of Sound Waves 2013.

It will be the first time the band have performed in South Tyneside since winning the X Factor in 2011 and Jade and Perrie can’t wait to showcase their biggest hits, including Wings, Change Your Life and How Ya Doin? in front of a hometown crowd.

Jade said.  “I feel very proud to be coming home.  We know how much the North East supports us and this is our first big homecoming gig so it’s going to be amazing.”

Perrie said:  “It’ll be incredible to be back up north.  Everyone will be up for partying so it’s going to be a good one.”

Little Mix, who have already achieved five top 20 UK hits and recently stormed the US Billboard Charts with their debut album DNA, will be co-headlining Sound Waves 2013 alongside boyband McFly, whose hits include Five Colours in Her Hair, All About You, Star Girl and Shine a Light.

The Bank Holiday gig, organised by South Tyneside Council, will also feature a performance by fellow South Shields resident and X Factor winner Joe McElderry, as well as appearances by Britain’s Got Talent finalists Luminites and up-and-coming boyband, The Vamps.

Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “Little Mix are one of the biggest bands in the world right now and everyone in South Tyneside is extremely proud of what Jade, Perrie and their fellow bandmates have achieved.

“We can’t wait to welcome them to Bents Park on August 25 alongside McFly, Joe McElderry, Luminites and The Vamps.   It’s going to be an unforgettable day.”
