Reclaim The City

     10 Aug 12

There are two weeks between the Olympic and Paralympic games. What are you going to do in your City?

  • Dine al fresco in an urban oasis in the shadow of Centre Point?
  • Check out Renzo Piano’s first London foray before the Shard was a glint in his eye?
  • Buy the best of British food at the Made In Britain Market at Central Saint Giles?

CENTRAL SAINT GILES
Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, the development, in the heart of the West End, comprises two buildings, with bright citrus coloured glazed tiles, arranged around a public courtyard lined with restaurants. The central seating area provides an outdoor oasis in the heart of the city for lunchtime picnics, after work drinks and al fresco dining at restaurants including Jamie Oliver’s Union Jacks, Cabana and Byron.

Head into the buildings for events, exhibitions and snacks in the light, spacious public areas.

MADE IN BRITAIN FOOD MARKET

Central Saint Giles Piazza is home to a Made in Britain food market every Friday and Saturday. It is the only market in London dedicated to promoting British food products, with an emphasis on companies that provide employment to residents of the UK. The Market is the latest venture from Rose Events, the team that run the hugely successful Chocolate, Cheese & Wine and Tea & Coffee Festivals at London’s Southbank Centre.

Stalls sell top British produce, from the finest quality charcuterie and smoked salmon to bread and cheese; brownies and cheesecakes; sparkling wine and cider. Food lovers can get their fix of fresh, natural food direct from the producers; and small independents get the chance they deserve to showcase their wares.
