Former 4 X 400m relay World Champion

welcomes 346 new athletes to the scheme at Olympic Park

Derek Redmond, member of the gold-medal winning 4 x 400m relay team of 1991, was at Olympic Park today to unveil the latest batch of Lloyds TSB Local Heroes.

Now in it’s 5th year, the Lloyds TSB Local  programme has helped youth athletes from all over the UK prepare for life competing in elite sport. As well as a grant that is delivered in partnership with SportsAid, Lloyds TSB Local Heroes also receive tutoring in areas such as sports psychology and social media training to ensure they are equipped with all the necessary skills to give them the best possible chance to reach the top of their sport.

The 2012 intake of Lloyds TSB Local Heroes will see 346 new young athletes join the scheme, taking to 1,000 the number of athletes the scheme has assisted since its inception in 2008
