to Scotland by hosting celebration of youth sport
Children from 25 schools around Glasgow join Olympic silver medallist at day long sport’s festival as Relay arrives in Glasgow
The Olympic Flame crossed the border into Scotland on Friday and Glasgow welcomed the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay with open arms
In celebration of its arrival in Scotland’s largest city, Bank of Scotland welcomed the Flame to Toryglen Football Centre during a showcase National School Sport Week event.
Olympic Silver Medallist Katherine Grainger hosted over 750 pupils from 25 schools in and around Glasgow at an afternoon of Olympic and Paralympic sport, including football, rowing, athletics, basketball and a range of disability sport , after which she was joined by a further 600 pupils to welcome the Flame. The celebration of youth sport was also be attended by a number of local dignitaries, including Michael Matheson MSP, Minister for Public Health.
Now in its third year, Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week runs from today until Friday 15th June 2012 and is aiming to get 1,950 schools from across Scotland involved in the week. This is more than 75% of all schools in Scotland; over a third more schools participating than in 2011 and nearly three times as many schools as in 2010, the programme’s inaugural week.
